Outback Steakhouse 94-810 Ukee St., Waipahu | 671-7200
Besides being Waipio’s fav happy-hour watering hole, Outback is best known for grilled steaks, chicken and seafood. Outback Steakhouse’s creations are made from scratch daily using the highest quality ingredients.
One Waipio resident says the Ribeye is his favorite splurge. All the cuts are USDA Choice steaks, which translates to moist, tender, juicy and delicious. Outback chefs indicate their preferred grilling style for each steak on the menu, either wood-fire grilled or classic seasoned and seared. The signature steaks, which are thought by purists to trump anything on the menu —are cooked to order and served with the choice of a cup of Walkabout Soup made fresh or a salad and one side.
From the sea, healthy highlights include the longstanding classic Norwegian Salmon, seasoned and wood-fire grilled and served with fresh, colorful veggies. The menu is rounded out with a selection of awesome salads and gourmet burgers. And save room for dessert, as the Chocolate Thunder from Down Under — a most perfect brownie served with vanilla ice cream drizzled with warm chocolate sauce and topped with whipped cream and chocolate shavings — is a complete meal.
Big City Diner 94-800 Ukee St., Waipahu | 678-8868

Maybe it is the fried rice, the hamburger steak, the fish sandwich, the salmon and brown rice, or the famous loco moco — but no matter what your pleasure, the Waipio location, with both indoor and outdoor seating, is quite extraordinary. The staff is super friendly, the food is hot, fresh and delicious and you never leave hungry. Plus plenty of parking.
If you’re really in the mood to indulge, try an old-fashioned milkshake punched up with Bubbies vanilla, strawberry or chocolate ice cream. This special treat has that homemade goodness. The $5.99 Keiki Lunch menu has burgers, Mama’s meatloaf, a grilled cheddar cheese “sammich” and a selection of favorites. Keiki desserts include the world’s smallest sundae — that is just so cute you have to go, just to order one.
